St. Luke’s Lutheran Church
Church main and archive websites created with WordPress
The Pastor expressed concerns that the church’s current website was outdated and cluttered, failing to foster the sense of community and organization he envisioned. My task was to redesign and build a new main website to serve as a centralized hub for the church’s information. Once that was complete, I would create a separate site dedicated to storing archives for users interested in exploring the church’s history.
The Problem
To achieve this, I collaborated closely with the Pastor and other church members to design and develop both the main website and the archive site. The new design streamlined their information, making it more navigable and engaging to users, while fostering a stronger sense of community.
The Solution

Pastor Strasser
Bob Wechtenhiser (Deacon)
Eleanora von Dehsen (Archive Manager)
Team
WordPress (develop websites)
Figma (design/brainstorm)
SiteGround (hosts both websites)
Software Used
Wireframes / Figma Prototype
The Pastor wanted the new website to follow a similar layout to other churches in the city. After reviewing several examples, we noticed a common structure for how church websites organized their information. This approach would address the issues of unclear categories and overwhelming text from the previous site.
I then designed a simple site flow to present the website’s structure and concept to the church group. After receiving feedback on improvements, such as color choices and imagery, I began development using WordPress.

NOTE: Since my time at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, another intern was hired, so there are a few small changes.
Developing
The main page features the church’s schedule, meeting times, and information about their soup kitchen.
The navigation bar includes pages such as "Leaders" and "Worship," highlighting the church’s activities within the community as well as its history in the city.
A dedicated "Giving" page allows users to donate money to the church or contribute food to the soup kitchen. This was a key focus, as the church is passionate about including all community members in these efforts.
Since a large portion of the community speaks Spanish, the website offers a translation option to ensure accessibility for everyone.
